Almost six months after a group of Columbia students rushed the stage when Minutemen Project leader Jim Gilchrist was speaking, the university has imposed sentences against the protesting students. The Columbia Spectator reports the students received "disciplinary warnings" which will be on their transcripts until the end of 2008. Monique Dols, a General Studies student who spoke to the media last fall, said, "It's a light punishment, it's a slap on the wrist. It's a victory for free-speech and anti-racism."
Naturally, the Minutemen are upset with the light punishment, but we bet they'd accept another invitation from the College Republicans if only to make protesters even more crazy. And speaking of free speech, the College Democrats and Republicans came together with LionPAC to put a 50-foot inflatable missile on campus to encourage students to attend a panel about Iranian nuclear proliferation on Thursday. Bwog, which took the picture, deems it "salacious symbolism."

A sham protest by LionPAC to further its pro Israel stance under the guise of another cause.
How about protesting US nuclear proliferation?
I guess you don't want to bite the hand that very generously feeds you.
Columbia students just can't accept the fact they represent a civilization in decline.
When this economy collapses, the people will look to see who sold this country down the river of self destruction, and they will see nearly a century of Ivy League loudmouths who have done nothing but enrich themselves at the expense of this once great nation.
Sure, they won this pitiful stunt this time - but they have forever made Columbia a target. A time will come when being a Columbia Graduate will be synonymous with "traiter". As the US is the most heavily indebted nation in the history of usury, that time will come sooner than you think.
Enjoy your peace while you have it kids!

"How about protesting US nuclear proliferation?"
Maybe because it's the only thing that is keeping the Russians from bombing and invading...not the Soviets anymore...the Russians. I really love people so insulated from reality that they can make the quoted statement.
Just remember that if I was a guy living in a s**t poor country and the richest country in the world became pacifist I'd laugh heartily while I cut your throat and raped your sister. Maybe I'd just hack your arms off like they do in Africa. Do you want short sleeves or long sleeves?
I still fail to see how it's racist to watch for people illegally entering the country and calling Border Patrol agents to report it happening. If you saw a store getting robbed, would you call 911?
I also fail to see how starting a riot at a speech that you disagree with is a "victory for free speech." I suppose it's too difficult for this idiot to grasp that irony.
Or is this too logical?
Tom is right on the money. Illegal immigration is by definition race-agnostic. Whether the person is Mexican or Ukrainian makes no difference if they've entered the country illegally. The claims of racism are merely a cheap way to make this issue faux-emotionally charged.
And the whole "victory for free speech" spiel just makes me think the spokesperson sports a double-digit IQ.
benji, at least a columbia student would spell "traitor" correctly.
tom, any policy that one disagrees with is "racist" as a general rule, but on the other hand its not as if the whole furor about immigration is because all of those canadians streaming across the border, either.
Yet another case pf privileged brats acting as if they are doing something worthwhile. These children obviously don't have a clue as to what free speech is or they would have respected others right to do so. Just like the children at NYU, the immigration issue has somehow been confused with racism. By definition, if you enter this country illegally, you are an illegal alien. Case closed.
I would think that children that go to these reputable institutions of higher learning would be smart enough to know that.
opposition to illegal immigration, in theory, is race-agnostic. in practice, well, you don't hear a lot about them durn "frostbacks" (canadians). instead you hear a lot about marginal, ahistoricial retards like la mecha and the whole "aztlan" rigamarole (like invocations of thule by you know who but without the snappy clothing, i guess) and how they're going to take over america.
there are exceptions to this of course, based on ideas that are well-reasoned and seasoned, even if i completely disagree with them. (ron paul, i look in your general direction)
on the other hand:
"It's a victory for free-speech and anti-racism."
there is nothing like the pure rage and fury of a college student to make you understand that emotionalism is the key to all politics.
this is so stupid it is nearly sublime. it captures that essence which makes all insane proclamations stick in your mind; it has that "we must destroy the constitution in order to save it" flavor that just keeps on giving.
they no more believe in free speech than tancredo believes in the rights of people to move freely.
tom, any policy that one disagrees with is "racist" as a general rule, but on the other hand its not as if the whole furor about immigration is because all of those canadians streaming across the border, either.
Get back to me when there actually ARE a bunch of Canadians streaming over the border.
Until that happens, the whole point is pretty much moot, no?
