The NY Post reveals what many people were wondering in the Sean Bell shooting: Who fired the shots that actually killed Bell and hit his friends Joseph Guzman and Trent Benefield. It turns out Detective Michael Oliver fired the shots. Oliver fired the most shots, 31, of the detectives and was charged with first-degree and second-degree manslaughter last week.
The other detective charged with manslaughter, Gescard Isnora, fired 11 times, but didn't hit anything. However, the Post reports, "Queens DA Richard Brown's prosecutors argued that Isnora was culpable because he was the undercover who approached Bell's car and - mistakenly believing Guzman was reaching for a gun - opened fire. That set off the dangerous chain of events that led the other cops to also fire." It will be interesting to see how Isnora's lawyer uses this information in the defense.
One other detective was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment (one of his bullets hit an Air Train station) while two others were not charged. The Post also has a graphic explaining who shot how many times and how many times the victims were hit.

How disturbed do we need to be that a member of the NYPD was unable to hit anything with eleven shots?!? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad there wasn't more damage done, but I have pretty much no experience with guns and I could hit SOMETHING will eleven chances.
well, thankfully, regardless of the outcome of the trial, these cops will never carry a gun again.
So Oliver gets the most punishment because another cop made the mistake of opening fire under the belief that someone drew a weapon? Sure 31 shots might be excessive but he was fighting for his life? Just because he has good aim, he takes the brunt of the punishment? I'm not happy innocent people died and their definitely needs to be changes with some protocol but we can't create a bad side effect where officers cannot defend their lives.
Soooooooooooooooooooo very sick of this story already....why is Gothamist obsessed with posts about Sean Bell and about Brooklyn???
ENOUGH already, please.
Hmmm, That tells me that this guy was either not looking at what the hell he was shooting at . Worst off he was scared and just peeled eleven shots in the general direction of the action .
