Noteworthy Television This Week: PBS is the Best Bet

A look at some noteworthy television this week:
Color BarsGrease: You're the One That I Want (Sunday, 8:00 p.m., WNBC 4) This fakeality show finally ends tonight.

Masterpiece Theatre - Prime Suspect 6: The Last Witness (Sunday, 9:00 p.m., WNET 13) Helen Mirren stars in one of her best roles – Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison. Despite being on PBS, the Prime Suspect series do tend to be a bit bowlderized from the British original thanks to the ridiculous puritanical FCC regulations, but still it is worth watching. In this outing Tennison investigates the murder of a tortured Bosnian Muslim.

American Experience: New Orleans (Sunday, 9:00 p.m., WLIW 21) The history of New Orleans from its beginnings as a French outpost built on a flood plain to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina are looked at.

The Great American Dream Vote (Tuesday, 10:00 p.m., WABC 7) Donny Osmond hosts this new fakeality show from the mental giants who brought us The Bachelor. In this one, the studio audience chooses from eight contestants who share their dreams.

The Boomer Century 1946-2046 (Wednesday, 9:00 p.m., WNET 13) Ken Dychtwald takes a look at the impact of the Baby Boomer generation.

Great Performances at the Met: The First Emperor (Thursday, 9:00 p.m., WNET 13) Chinese composer Tan Dun's opera The First Emperor makes its broadcast debut with Placido Domingo as Emperor Qin.

Great Museums: Year of the Museum Specials National Baseball Hall of Fame: Home Base (Thursday, 10:00 p.m., WLIW 21) A look at the The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in upstate Cooperstown, which by all rights should be in Hoboken where baseball started, but that is another story.

New York Voices (Friday, 10:30 p.m., WNET 13) Thirteen’s public affairs series takes a look at charter schools in New York City this week.

Yankees Preview (Friday, 10:30 p.m., WWOR 9) Channel 9 previews the Yankees season. Don’t expect much objectivity, since WWOR is the broadcast home of the Bronx Bombers.

Mets Classics: 1986 World Series Game 7 (Saturday, 7:00 p.m., SNY) Relive the Mets glory with the 7th game of the 1986 World Series.
