New Yorkers are vulnerable to all kinds of criticism, but non-exposure to foreign languages wouldn't be your strongest case, Tex. Probably a full quarter of this city speaks Spanish natively, just for starters.

In Queens there are schools where the student body speaks 50-some odd languages natively.

How ironic that New Yorkers, who love to dump on the gauche, provincial rubes of Texas at every possible opportunity, gawk and stare when they come to Texas and encounter people who don't speak English. "Whoa, look - a little Mexican woman!"

Seriously, I'm originally from Texas and reading this story and Danny's little anecdote makes me understand a little why some Texans (as well as anyone outside the tri-state area) hate New Yorkers so much.

The most amazing part of that story is that you somehow seem proud of it.

I flew to Texas and quintouple fisted drinks on the first of two flights. This is after pounding three $10 beers at LaGuardia. I passed out on the plane after the layover where we drank more beer and whiskey at Chili's. My friend threw up on the second plane. We got to Houston and were too drunk to get the rental car and had to sleep it off in the terminal. When all was said and done, each of us had spent well over $100 on alcohol.

It's good to knw that NYC is still way ahead of TX.

At least we have the Doppler 4000, not some stickin' Doppler 2000.
