Yes, Fox does have quality control, as much as I might loathe their programming. I'd bet you dollars to doughnuts there is an entire department devoted to just that.

I didn't say that I just skip to the comments. I said that I typically skim the article and then skip to the comments.

The usual target for the grammar police here is Jen, which is why I said something positive about her. Jordana doesn't often get this kind of response because a) her output is much smaller and b) she typically doesn't make this kind of error.

@daniel - I ate at the restaurant and thought it was pretty damn good and cheap as hello. That big ass beer was less than 5 bucks and awesome. I'd definitely go back there.

@anonymass - Does fox tv maintain quality control? You say that there must be money coming in but if you knew any writers for sites like these you would know that they aren't the ones seeing the money.

And you're saying that you skip to the comments? Why not just read message boards all day instead of reading Gothamist?

And lastly for someone correcting other people all the time. You were responding to hungrynow above by trying to say something nice. You said something nice about "Jen" but this article wasn't written by "Jen" it was written by "Jordana".

duhhhhhhhhh

Sorry, don't mean to hijack this thread, but this needs to be said:

This site is littered with advertisements - this isn't just some vanity project. I have to assume there is some money coming in: meaning that like, say, television which is also "free," the people in charge of content have a certain responsibility to maintain a bare minimum in terms of quality control.

So, as I said, a typo or two on a daily basis is one thing. Putting up grammatically incomprehensible phrases - and let's face it, this kind of poor writing is rife in Gothamist articles - is quite another.

To be honest, I don't bother reading most articles because I know what to expect; more often than not I skim and then skip to the comments.

If this were my business venture I'd be embarrassed. I get it: you don't care what I think. I can see from your writing why that might be. (Hint: try using some punctuation, Captain Run-On Sentence).

As for saying something nice: I like the way that Jen's personality comes across in her writing. That might be a strange thing to say given that I don't know her from Eve, but I get what kind of person she is. Just like you get that I'm an argumentative prick - which I like to be online but never am in person.

Plus she's hot.

blunderbuss and anonyass, the point I was making is that these writers are writing for you guys..and some of you guys (not all thankfully) are just plain nasty and annoying. Are your lives so meaningless that being able to point something wrong out validates your otherwise boring day, that you just need someone to listen to you?

Jon Stewart makes mistakes I'm sure but could care less what you think about his little "gaffes" these Gothamist writers however are more like you and me (well more like me I would say since I'm not a total dipshit like some of the negative commenters). And they are just writing for you guys.

I read Gothamist daily and make jokes here and there but am fed up reading comments. I can't believe I think this but I realize now why some sites don't allow anonymous commenters, they have it so you have to be a member to comment. If I were to start up a new site like this I would use that system and avoid the blunderbuss's of the world

If there really is a major omission or error that is IMPORTANT than you can point it out..but hows about also saying something nice once in awhile.

I for one, would like to know how and why the bacon wrapped plums were "haunting". What do you mean? Did their dead tormented souls return to give you heartburn? I think you have watched Sideways a few times too many. Your prose is poopy.

I don't understand why certain people are shocked when readers bring attention to obvious errors. Typographical errors should be overlooked, but calling out blatant misspellings or worse, misused words, is fair game in a written medium.

As entertaining and sharp as Jon Stewart is, he makes these kinds of verbal gaffes on a fairly regular basis. I often wonder if other people are cringing.

Do these idiot commenters have jobs? Can you do anything other than immediately JUMP on any error perceived or real that you might find?

I would love to meet some of these people in real life. They must be riveting.

Good write up JR. That meat stuffed pancake looks pretty mean!

portends?
as in to serve as an omen or a warning of; or to indicate by prediction; forecast
maybe you just mean that his web site repeatedly mentions it.
