Where Even a Rainbow Flag is Taken Into Custody

2007_03_ppflag.jpg 2007_03_ppflag2.jpg

Yesterday, ACT UP members and others protested in Times Square to denounce the U.S. military, with particular focus on Chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staffs General Pace's remarks about homosexuality being immoral. Andres Duque at Blabbleando has a great post on the protest as well some some nice photographs - check out activist Larry Kramer stirring things up again! Also see Towleroad's coverage.

After a 100 foot rainbow flag was unfurled across 7th Avenue as an act of civil disobedience, two people were arrested - Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum and National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Director Matt Foreman who sat down in the street - and the flag was taken into custody. And, yes, former Governor James McGreevey did appear.

This is also the 20th anniversary of ACT UP; learn more here.

Too bad the cowardly Democrats in Congress won't do anything about this. I guess they are more interested in not fix Medicare.

Hey, y'all:
the LGBT Center's website (where ACT UP was founded!) has video coverage.

I wonder if the "Act up" people had a permit to be there in the first place ? I understand the freedoms at stake here . I think that if these groups would do things the legal way instead of trying to be a disruption, They would be a hell of lot more effective in their efforts to inform the masses . You don't have to march on St. Patrick's day to get your point across that they discriminate against gays . If need be select another street to march on ! If the city doesn't grant you the permit then you sue for the right !! That's how you do things here folks all the organiziers are doing is using the law against you . Try turning the tables on them for a change .
