Of Montreal Are Truly Amazing
We've been down in Austin for South By SouthWest for most of the last week, but before taking off, we caught one of the most enjoyable shows we've seen all year in Of Montreal at Irving Plaza. For those who claim the show was boring, we don't know what they would have to do to satisfy you. There were costume changes, songs performed oh the shoulders of mustachioed, white bodysuit wearing men, and music from what is perhaps the best album released so far in 2007. Not sure what more one could ask for. (pic via Leia Jospe Flickr)
Matt and Kim Make Their Presence Felt at SXSW
The Brooklyn DIY underdogs seem to be playing more than anyone else in town this week. We've seen them twice already, and probably will run in to them a handful more before coming back to NYC. While they've blown up in New York, selling out Bowery and packing the even bigger Studio B, its fun to watch them start over and plan their national takeover in a different city, the same way they came up at home by playing here-and-there sets wherever they can squeeze in a drum set and keys.
Todd P Brings His WTF to Austin
The most exciting party of the week so far has been Todd P's afterhours rave/jam down on the other side of the tracks, literally, at the Amtrak station. Not in a bar near the station or something, but just outdoors, up against the back of the train station with a stack of Natty Ice right there for the taking. The party featured the mind numbing Big A Little a, Kidz in the Hall, Flosstradamus and a handful of other acts. We have no idea how this didn't get shut down immediately, but when we left around 3am last night, it was still going strong. God bless Todd P for doing something different and exciting, and bringing his unique aesthetic down to Austin. He is repping NYC well. (pic via jfriedmod's flickr)

ummmmm.... todd is FROM austin. he's been showing nyc his 'unique aesthetic' and what he did in austin for a few years; just on a grander scale. he used to do shows in a vacant loft next to my record store before the 'live music capital of the world' was shown to be a lie...
do you know where i can find anymore pictures of this show at amtrak? all i had was my phone so i took no picture...
