Last Night's Action: Rangers Hurt Themselves

2006_10_srangerslogo.jpg

  • Senators 3, Rangers 2: Losing a game after holding a 2-0 lead in the second period is hard enough, but when the opponents' go-ahead goal touches your stick last before going in the net, it especially burns. That's what happened Tuesday. Marek Malik deflected a shot past Henrik Lundqvist in the third period, ending a seven-game points streak for the Rangers. This was their 21st one-goal loss this season, which could be bad luck but could be something else.

  • Canadiens 5, Islanders 3: The Islanders lost the game, but they also lost Rick DiPietro, who left the game with an apparent head injury. They have just one win in four games as the season hits the home stretch.

  • Nets 112, Hornets 108: Richard Jefferson looks like he's back. He scored 26, added six rebounds and three assists as the Nets held off the Hornets. The Nets let Chris Paul run wild to the tune of 26 points, but they still had enough punch to hold their ground at the end.

Kinda had to figure at some point teh recent surges by both the Isles and Rangers would slow down a bit. We'll see what the next few weeks holds, but wtih the Isles making bad mistakes (eg DP gunning for the puck at the blue line to prevent a breakaway), it doens't look good.

Maybe blame their anemic power play before you start in on Malik.

You obviously don't follow the Rangers regularly. This isn't the first time the Rangers have blown a lead, and it's also not the first time the game-losing goal has gone off Malik's stick.

  • You know what? I think they'll be OK. There's always a team that makes a run at the end of the season and at times the Rangers have looked fantastic this year.
