Bad News for Bond Street Sushi

2007_3_bondstreet.jpg

There was a big fire at Bond Street Sushi this morning (MANHATTAN: 75-365, BOND ST X LAFFAYETTE ST, FIRE IN A 4 STY 25 X 80 MD, MAIN BODY FIRE K/D --MNS, 5:32am.) Our tipster, who lives across the street, reports the restaurant was gutted. Too bad-- though expensive, that's long been one of the best sushi spots downtown.

Update-- Eater went down to the scene, and says it's just the front rooms that were destroyed. Over/under on the rebuild? We're going to say 4 weeks and $500k from the insurance company.

oh please, once the guys left for cube 63, the food has been abyssmal. they think its still 1999 in there.

it was fun while it lasted.

This news is very sad. I really like Bond Street Sushi. My husband takes me there once a year on my birthday. I do hope they rebuild.

Sam, I'm not sure what you ordered while you were there but I would hardly call Bond Street's food abysmal.

Good riddance, Bond St is the Porsche Boxster of the sushi world--token for those who haven't tried the real thing. Go to Kuruma and then tell me if you're interested in going back to Bond Street.
