this is not the first public toilet in the city. the times article metions toilets in central and union square parks. it's the first pay toilet.

There is a reason on why you should find trees, bushes, deserted streets, side street store front corners and dumpsters. Also worst comes to worst, squat on the sidewalk, most people shouldnt be able to tell a lil human poo in dog poo.

Wow, one public toilet for a city of 8 million people. And a few months later we'll have two! I've never understood this aversion to public facilities -- living in a city is all about being out and about, and public facilities make this a lot more feasible. You'd think people would be demanding them. BTW, there was one of these across from the Municipal building for a long time, but I don't know if it's still there.

I hope they don't name the toilet after Jerry Orbach, because that would just be wrong. Although he'd probably get a kick out of that...
