While in California discussing gang violence with sheriffs and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rudy Giuliani answered some questions about his relationship with son Andrew. The former mayor's 21-year-old son made some remarks to the NY Times about being estranged from his father due to a rocky relationship with stepmother Judi Nathan. Today, Giuliani said:
"My wife Judith is a very loving and caring ... mother and stepmother. She has done everything she can. The responsibility is mine. I believe that these problems with blended families, you know, are challenges -- sometimes they are. The more privacy I can have for my family, the better we are going to be able to deal with all these difficulties."That's true: Giuliani was the one to announce that he was separating from Andrew's mother Donna Hanover in a press conference (that's how Hanover found out) - and he'd been dating Nathan prior to that. Anyway, it's interesting re-reading Nathan's remarks to Harper's Bazaar over Rudy - it does cast some interesting questions about his skills as a father (and we know he's not running for Father of U.S.A., but he made such a big deal out of his kids previously).
The news of the strained father-son (and father-daughter) relationship comes as Giuliani is on the cover of Newsweek; there's a Jonathan Alter analysis of Rudy's chances and a profile about him called Master of Disaster. In other Giuliani news, the investment consulting arm of his business, Giuliani Capital Advisors, has been sold, probably to make way for his presidential bid.

Why is Rudy campaigning with Kim Jong II?
Sweet Jesus that's a terrible facelift on Schwarzenegger. I immediately propose a law banning bro-lifts.
A little vomit just came up in my mouth.
What are some of the significant achievements of Giuliani's 2 terms as NYC mayor? I'll start:
- He banished the squeegee people
"My wife Judy (9/11) is a very loving and caring (9/11) mother and stepmother (9/11). That's why she would still try schtupping me (9/11) while I was in the hospital (9/11) with prostate cancer (9/11) while my wife (9/11) and children (9/11 and 9/11) were worrying about me."
Sadly, and it pains me to say this, but this could actually help the Whore's campaign. His family situation isn't all that different from a lot of people's, and by getting in front of it, he actually shows a human-like attribute.
Stil, it will be interesting to see what Dobson and Bauer and the rest of the punch-you-in-the-nose-so-they-can-bless-the-blood crowd thinks of this.
Let's give Rudy the same amount of privacy and respect he gave Patrick Dorismond.....
Rudy has turned his back on every principle he ever stood for, broken every promise he ever made, doublecrossed every friend he ever had. He was a terrible, horrible mayor, who, on Sept. 10 had approval numbers as low as George W. Bush.
As for the often-cited drop in crime, people who have actually studied this (as opposed to some of the posters on this site) know that there was a similar drop in crime nationwide. There was also a much better and effective use of the Police, thanks to Chief William Bratton (whom Rudy fired because HE wanted the credit for everything good happening in NYC) and his strong right hand man, Jack Maple. There were more Police on the streets of NYC because Bill Clinton, along with balancing the Federal Budget, allocated funds for more than 100,000 more cops in America. (One of dozens of campaign promises he either met or exceeded... as opposed to the last few repug presidents, who have never kept a promise.) David Dinkins went after these funds and put them into the NYPD... but, of course, Rudy claimed that it was HE who got that funding.
