Shouldn't we start getting creative here? There's a lot of buildings that could have solar panels on top, a lot of natural wind tunnels in this city, and we're surrounded by tidal bays on all sides.

Obviously you can't run the city on solar energy, but maybe we should look into more decentralized energy sources to meet the marginal demand? Especially because the transmission grid is severely overtaxed as it is.

Let people sell electricity back to the grid, maybe give 'em a tax break, and they'll make the investment to buy solar panels, wind, whatever works best for them. We have the infrastructure, right now and maybe before we spend billions on another transmission line that nobody wants, we should look for an easier non-polluting solution that we can totally abandon with very little money lost if it doesn't work?

"People can blame who they want - we just want to make sure another blackout doesn't happen this summer."

And if it does I'm sure Mr. Mayor Moneybag will still be congratulating what a fine job Con Ed CEO Kevin Burke is doing. I'm certain the Mayor is just itching to snatch up Kevin and place him in some prominent position at Bloomberg L.P. and he'll do a bang up job just like he did for Con Ed and this city.
