How odd -- the nipple-tint origin mythology and the product itself have both been around for years. Baffling that NYMag would do a piece on it, unless BeneTint has finally decided that marketing the scarlet nips (instead of demurely alluding to it as inspiration, as they've done previously), will up their ante now that the market is flooded with similar products (heavy competition from lines like Tarte).

I like BeneTint, have used it for years. I don't think it tastes bad and, as a makeup minimalist, it works well as a multi-purpose product for both my lips and cheeks. Have never tried it on nipples, though, but I can tell you it wouldn't stain clothing -- it's a sheer liquid that soaks in after a minute. You could probably achieve a similar effect with red Kool-Aid, to be honest.

I also have to tell you that a friend of mine, seeing it in my medicine cabinet years ago and inquiring about it, got all excited about the nipple history and really wanted to paint hers up. Seems some people really are into having rose-tipped girls. Whatever turns you on, eh?

Friends... variety is the spice of life. Imagine how boring the world would be if all nipples looked alike. Diversity forever!

Hasn't this stuff been around for at least 10 years? Thank goodness this timely snippet about its multiple uses has at long last been brought to my attention.

wait, I thought it was part of their lore that Benetint was originally based on some goopy nipple makeup beloved by strippers! I'm totally returning my bottle, now that I know it lacks the Official Stripper Seal of Approval.

Benefit's spokeswoman the history of "ripe, rosy" nipples being standards of beauty even encourages that undercover nipples get Benetint.

Seriously, did you just get off the boat?

[4] I wasn't criticizing anyone's grammar. That comment was in response to the comment preceding it--since removed--that was bitching about Gothamist's lack of copyediting. The use of the non-word "gramatic" in my comment was purposeful, to prove my point about legions of sharp-eyed copy editors. Congratulations, you spotted the error in 1hr 11mins.

White girls, you are a mystery.

ps. the irony of one blog commenter's f'ing up while correcting someone else's "gramatic" skills never ceases to amuse and disgust. cf. Matthew 7:3.

Who gives a damn what NOW thinks? There was a great article in Atlantic Monthly about how overturning Roe v. Wade would not only make absolutely no difference but it would be the best thing to happen to the Democratic Party - ever.

This is odd. I am a young straight male with a vigorous libido, and I prefer pale pink nipples. I fail to see the benefit of this or any other similar product for the purpose of tinting nipples.

It's obvious that Gothamist.com actually employs a legion of sharp-eyed, on-the-ball copy editors who quickly ferret out and inform its staff of every typo, solecism, and spelling error that appears online. I applaud those unsung heroes' gramatic vigilance.
