THEATER: On Thursdays and Fridays through March 16 at Dixon Place, Sibyl Kempson unveils her latest opus, Crime or Emergency. The show’s description is tantalizingly cryptic: “A routine medical examination goes critical, spirals. Common expectations of cause and effect obliterated. Inner, personal violences take hold and multiply.” Given Kempson’s track record of nervy, bewitching performance – in addition to acting in her own plays, she’s conspired with Richard Maxwell and starred in the charming Daydream Believer – you can expect plenty of hilarious absurdity. And the talent she’s wrangled for this production is a Davos Convention of experimental theater: Kate Benson, Alex Delinois, Jim Fletcher, Eleanor Hutchins, Mike Iveson, Richard Maxwell, Brian Mendes, Kourtney Rutherford, Jason Schuler, Susie Sokol and Matthew Swan. - John Del Signore
MUSIC: After hearing the first few notes of Elvis Perkins at the Seaport Festival last summer, we were sonically smitten. This son of Anthony Perkins has a talent for crafting silver lined melancholy songs. If you miss him tonight, he's at Luna Lounge on March 4th (tickets here). The video for his latest single, All The Night Without Love, is below...
Speaking of Luna Lounge, Stellastarr* (one of the bands that got their start at the original Luna) is playing there next week, $10 tickets here.
9:30pm // Joe’s Pub [425 Lafayette St] // $15
