Last Night's Action: Playoffs!?!

2006_11_sknickslogo.jpg

  • Celtics 102, Knicks 94: It's games like this that make Knicks fans shake their heads when their team talks playoffs. Even without Jamal Crawford and David Lee, the performance in this game is embarrassing. For one, the Celtics are the favorites to win the draft lottery, and, for another, no team should look as bad as the Knicks did Wednesday. Sure, they were thin enough that Malik Rose had to play 10 minutes. But even the Knicks should have a buffer zone between their typical play and losing to the Celtics. They certainly should be able to turn in a poor effort and still not look bad while losing to the Celtics. Of course, all losses to Boston look pretty bad.

  • Exhibition season is underway for the Mets, who lost to Detroit on Wednesday afternoon. The Yankees start their Grapefruit League slate Thursday, but Spring Training games mean almost nothing. They just provide a chance to see those ugly new hats, announcers scramble to find the names of players who have numbers in the 80s. It's also a chance for starters to take it easy while reserves and minor leaguers travel to road games.

It's as if Isiah decided only now to try and tank the season in order to get more ping-pong balls for the lottery draft...

Or you could argue that the Knicks don't want the Celts to get the top pick since whoever gets picked could terrorize the Knicks for the next 5-15 years.
