THEATER: Artfuckers, a new play by Michael Domitrovich, shines a hot spotlight on the ones you love to hate: the over-privileged offspring of New York’s “moneyed art scenesters of the 1980s.” The story follows a group of twentysomethings who are collaborating on their friend’s debut showing at NY Fashion Week! There’s a drug overdose, serious soul-searching and, presumably, some sort of artfucking. Director Eduardo Machado, who helms the Graduate Playwriting Program at Columbia, says, “anarchism is the most important element in theatre; but most theatres in NYC have become totalitarian, rather than anarchistic and revolutionary. That’s why I’m thrilled to be returning to Theater for the New City for this show.” We’re curious to know Machado’s take on Theater for the New City’s sudden eviction of May Day Books, the anarchist bookseller that’s occupied the theater’s lobby for six years.
