Maybe it was too subtle for the straights, but the Mahogany reference at the beginning of the review made it perfectly clear!

Seriously -- nothing personal against Bruni, but he doesn't really do anything for me either in the writing department. There are plenty of folks online who review restaurants in a much more succinct, concise manner and STILL get me geeked to hit up new spots. The Gothamist crew (no shilling, I swear!) are prime examples.

Frank Bruni is a sorry excuse for a food critic. He dedicates his column to ridiculous observations more than the food itself. He has never written an article which makes me salivate. NY Times need to get their act together and search for a more interesting critic.

Nope, I think I was the last one to find out that Frank Bruni was gay. When I was reading the review I was wondering why he was "less susceptible to the scenery than other men might be" - now it is all clear.

i didn't know bruni was gay, but when i was reading it this morning, i thought he was being a little sly with this turn of the phrase: "On this visit to Robert’s and on subsequent ones, I was derelict in my duty, failing to sample much of what the restaurant had to offer. But the beef, I devoured — breathlessly, ecstatically." Don't want to read much into it, but if he was really talking about the steak that way, why would he only give it one star?
