This is hysterical... for years the thing to do was find the spot where this photo was taken and take a picture there. When they were going to knock down the building the buzz was to go down there and get one of the bricks that was from the picture... or sell one of the bricks and say it was from the picture.

Now I find out I spent five bucks for nothing.

(kidding)

Great story, though... thanks.

Kevin Bacon said in an interview that a relative of his (brother? uncle? cousin?) worked at the Fillmore East. His Six Degrees cannot be fought, people. Surrender to the Bacon!

I've read that the band is laughing because Duane had just scored a bag of coke and is holding it there in his hands.

which is why i wrote in the post:

"In actuality, the album cover shots were taken at the bands headquarters in Macon, Georgia. Marshall explains here." (and then i linked to the same exact thing you cut and pasted.)

That shot was not taken at the Fillmore East. In Jim Marshall's own words:

"This shot of the Allman Brothers Band was taken in Macon, Georgia, in 1969 for the cover of At Fillmore East. From the left, Jai Johanny Johanson, Duane, Gregg, Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, and Butch Trucks. Now, the interesting part of this story is that I hear there are guided tours of the Lower East Side in New York City that supposedly visit the spot where this shot was taken. None of the pictures on the At Fillmore East album or CD packages were taken at the Fillmore East. Right before we did the shot in Macon, I stenciled "The Allman Brotheres Band at Fillmore East" on one of the cases. For the album concept, I received a platinum record from the Allman Brothers' current manager."
