Last Night's Action: Nets Still Area's Best Hoops Team
- Nets 101, Knicks 92: Vince Carter once again made the Nets happy they kept him around. He scored 40 points -- the second time in three games he's done that -- as New Jersey kept control over their cross-river rivals. As is always the case, a low-profile player helped too; Bostjan Nachbar had 15 points and 10 rebounds. And the Knicks? They worked hard to get a halftime lead but saw that go up in smoke when they got outscored 33-15 in the third quarter. They're mediocre at best, and mediocrity in this conference is not something to be proud of.
- Duke 67, St. John's 50: That first half ranks among the worst played on the country this season. The Red Storm scored only 10 points in the first half, proving that having great athletes doesn't mean you have great basketball players. Their 40 points in the second half amid some extracurricular activities don't matter. A loss is a loss for teams floating on the Big East Tournament bubble.
- Devils 3, Capitals 2: Yes, the Devils do have a backup goalkeeper. He even plays sometimes. His name? Scott Clemmensen. Martin Brodeur was in net for the first 38 Devils wins this season, but Clemmensen made 26 saves to pick up his first win this season Sunday. How good have the Devils been? They haven't lost consecutive games since December and are comfortably the second seed in the Eastern Conference.
