Rudy Giuliani wouldn't have been anywhere near the World Trade Center on 9/11 if he hadn't made the decision to locate his (approx.) $23 million specialized Emergency Command Center in the Trade Center. His aides advised him against it since the Trade Center had been the target of a partially aborted terrorist bomb 1993 and was still a likely target. After the planes hit, Giuliani and his (now-disgraced) Police Commissioner, Bernard Kerik, rushed from City Hall down to the Command Center at Trade Center. The rest is history. For once, the Rev. Al Sharpton got it right when he declared (in response to Guiliani's 9/11 leadership) that "Bozo the clown could have brought the city together."

All the rest of the country knows about Rudy is that he was mayor of NYC on 9-11. That's it. Once the slimy underbelly of ol' chrome-dome becomes known (and believe me, the attack ads are on the drawing table) support in the polls from folks out there in fly-over land will erode quickly. They have no idea what the real Rudy is really like---but they will soon. And they won't like it.
