It's Mardi Gras: Get Your Fat Tuesday On!

2007_02_food_pancakes.jpgOr at least you can get your fat on. You can start by hitting up the newly opened Popeye's Fried Chicken at 40th Street between 7th and 8th. And of course you'll need to follow it up with some pancakes. Lucky for you, IHOP is giving them away free until 10 p.m. today! Here's a list of nearby IHOPs, for your convenience.

For other pancake options, the New York post rounds up a wide variety, like Bobby Flay's blue corn pancakes with barbecued duck, or the carrot ginger griddlecakes at Good. For a more traditional version, stop by Clinton Street Baking Company. Not only are their standard pancakes topped with a maple butter that is so good it might make you lick the plate, but they're in middle of pancake month. Upcoming pancakes include pancakes topped with sauteed honeycrisp apples and cinnamon sour cream, and banana chocolate chunk pancakes.

AM New York has a list of bars with Mardi Gras celebrations and OTBKB can't figure out if Two Boots or Union Hall (with food from NoNo Kitchen) will be the place to go in Park Slope tonight. For more New Orleans cuisine, try Great Jones Cafe, Mara's Homemade, or Jacques-Imos'. Also, check out RealMeals.TV Mardi Gras recipes to let les bons temps roulez chez vous.

I don't get it.....what the hell do pancakes have to do with Mardi Gras?

more mardi gras, less pancakes!

don't go to popeye's if you're white. that's the black version of KFC, and yo ass ain't welcome there..

yes. lose the pancakes. but does anyone know a bakery where i can pick up a king cake? (i usually make them since i'm in nyc, but the day kinda snuck up on me.)

Here's the pancake connection. You might try calling Mara's for King Cake; they make them, but I think she needs 24 hours notice.
