Andrew W.K. Motivates and Opens a Venue

2007_02_arts_wk100.jpgEven though we haven't heard a new Andrew W.K. song since that party hard tune back in the day, he's always managed to pop up with new projects here and there. Last week we mentioned his performance at PIT, and it seems as though he'll be returning there in March. From their website: "Andrew WK: The Joy Trilogy. Rock god and party guerilla Andrew W.K. brings his free-form soulsearching to the PIT! Andrew will riff off-the-cuff on the stuff of the head and heart directly with the audience. He'll be taking questions and keeping the floor open to any kind of expression. The Joy Trilogy is not a lecture, it's an inquiry, a jam and a celebration. Participants are encouraged to show and tell and to come with their minds wide and high. The theme of each night is "joy in life" and as Andrew says, 'We're talking about being us.'" That's our kind of motivational speaker.

W.K. has also been working on his venue at 100 Lafayette, which he's opening with Spencer Sweeney. In 2005 they had a petition going, but we think things are moving forward now. We went to the venue for an art party held by (friends of W.K.) Paper Magazine not too long ago, it was beautiful, spacious and had multi-levels.

When it opens it will certainly be more than just a venue. Seems he made a little announcement to CMJ yesterday about the space, stating, "This is something I always wanted to do, have a space for all types of people to come and be creative, relax, and have their minds blown." While he added that the venue is yet to be named, we think it will be called (or at least at one point was going to be called) Santa's Party House.

How does he manage to party so hard, yet get so much done?

We are in need of another good venue. This is pretty cool.
