Four Hours, Eleven People, One Tiny Elevator

Yesterday afternoon, six adults and five children were stuck in an elevator for over three hours. The Fire Department was called to the Polo Grounds housing project in West Harlem when someone reported the elevator was stuck between the 15th and 16th floors.

Somehow, the power went out around 3:45PM, and the passengers, stuck in the a 4' by 6' foot space, called 911. Seventeen year old Laquell Harris said, "We could barely move, and we couldn't sit down because it was so crowded. And it was hot." He added that it was scary because the elevator would move up and down. By 7:30PM, Fire Department managed to hoist everyone up by using harnessing through the elevator car's ceiling hatch.

While many complaints have been made about the elevators, this particular car was the newest. Fifty-year-old maintenance worker Raymond Perez, who was the last to be taken out, had some choice words. He told the Post, "I've been calling 311 for the longest. These elevators never work," while he said, when asked by the Daily News if he would be taking the elevator tomorrow, "Like hell."

as my roommate declared the other night... "what the hell is going on with the elevators!?"

is it so much to ask that a three paragraph post not be riddled with missing words and grammatical errors? it seems like after all the criticism you've received, you'd finally go out and buy the AP stylebook or, you know, just proof read before posting.

Is it so much to ask that the grammar nazi IP adddress's be banned from gothamist?

how about banning the people that complain about grammar "nazis."

Because you know, complaining about the lack of copyediting totally kills huge amounts of jews.

a real anarchist wouldn't use a comma in their retort.

good writing requires good grammar - those are the fucking rules! what are you, a big fucking crybaby?

Fer cryin' out loud, why don't you grammar/spelling police just create your own fuckin' city blog so people can go coo about how AWESOME the grammar and spelling is and whatever other ass-kissing attention y'all obviously seem to need.

Good grammar makes economic sense. I have sent links and recommended Gothamist to friends and 100% of them comment on the awful grammar and apparent lack of editing. Because of this I send / recommend less frequently.

Yes, it does look extremely unprofessional to have so many errors. And it's compounded when so many comment attempts result in error messages. This is supposed to be New York City's top blog?

Back on topic, I'd hate to imagine how hot it was. I've been stuck in an elevator alone for about 40 minutes. Didn't bother me since I knew the mechanics were on the way, but even alone, it got awfully warm in there.
