THEATER: Novelist and rock journalist Marc Spitz has led a double life for many years by penning a cycle of darkly comic plays for, and sometimes about, the downtown music hipsterati. Each play’s title refers directly to Spitz’s own media milieu – his last opus was The Name of This Play is Talking Heads – and exploits, with an insider’s incisiveness, the inexhaustible subjects of sex, drugs and rocking way, way out. While past Spitz extravaganzas have skewered the music industry with delirious glee, his new production, Your Face is a Mess, sounds a bit like last call; it centers on a petty drug dealer who wants to turn his life around but gets no help from his friends, who happen to be his clients. When he gets involved with a self-destructive ex-soap opera star, he decides the best move would be to get procreating. Your Face is a Mess is said to be “where hipsterdom dies”, or at least starts clearing space on the CD rack for Kidz Bop. - John Del Signore
8pm // The Kraine Theater [85 E. 4th Street] // Tickets cost $15
MOVIE: Who Killed the Electric Car? Don't look at us. The documentary explores the lifeline of this particular vehicle and why the US didn't adopt it. You'll also learn a thing or two about the roles of automobile manufacturers, the oil industry, the US government, batteries, hydrogen vehicles, and consumers...all who limited the development this technology.
8pm // Time's Up Space [49 E Houston St]
Also worth mentioning: Slayer is playing Hammerstein Ballroom tonight. (Warning: clicking on that link will result in you listening to Slayer immediately. Crank it up.)
