- Jerry Reese didn’t waste any time remaking the Giants. On Monday he cut three players, all starters, as part of a roster overhaul. While it is hard to argue with waiving Carlos Emmons, a disapointment in his time as a Giant, and LaVar Arrington, a great talent who could not stay healthy, the cut of Luke Petitgout is interesting.
Petitgout was also injured last year, but he was the only guy on the roster who could play left tackle reasonably well. Considering the importance of the position and the lack of depth the Giants have there, they have a big hole to fill of their own creation. With Tiki Barber already gone, the Giants are missing two key pieces from their offense. Hopefully, Reese has some good ideas for the draft and free agency.
- It didn’t take long for the Yankees’ contract stance with Bernie Williams to have a spillover effect. The great Mariano Rivera, the best closer of all time, is speculating that he will leave New York when his deal expires after the season.
"Definitely, I want to finish my career here," Rivera said. "But if they don't give me the respect that I deserve, [if] I have to move on, I have to move on. The Yankees always give me respect. When it comes to these times, I don't like to talk about it."
By respect, he means dollars and as great as he is, the Yankees would be foolish to give him an extension now because he is already 37. It would be smarter to wait until he finishes this year and assuming he performs as he has, extend his deal then.
Jorge Posada is in a similar situation, so expect to hear something from him soon.
- And Lance Armstrong plans to run in this year's ING NYC Marathon. Armstrong participated in his first marathon ever during last year's NYC Marathon: He ran with a Lance-cam on him during the whole race, finished in just under 3 hours, and said it was the toughest thing he'd ever done physically.

Respect of course being the code word for "I am a greedy douche". I'm shocked he didn't say "I have to take care of my family".
LOL. The reason for the cuts are simple numbers . Three guys that are on the downside of there carrers . Three guys that now have a history of injuries, One of which will ever be the same player he once was(LaVarr Arrington). The others were just to prone for the comfort of the new GM . As far as the Yankees, Well that's because they spoil these guys by making them multi-millionares to damn early . All Mo's doing is riding the wave to the bitter end ! He clearly isn't the same closer he was five years ago . Yet he wants to be "Respected" as he was then . Very selfish .
Obviously you know nothing about Mariano Rivera. Think before you type.
another Tim N. classic. Insults but no insight.
I'll take Mo for another year. He is still dominating. But, I agree, the team's management needs to see if he has a good year before showing him "respect."
As for Bernie, clearly his time is up. He got his extra year. But, the Yankees should have shown him some "respect" by offering him a job with the team (minor league management, batting coach, etc.). He deserves to live and die a Yankee.
Another anonymous troll. Glad you're paying attention.

Hi, I know nothing about what I'm talking about but I'll post because all atheletes are greedy bastards, man.
Rivera is the greatest relief pitcher of all time and he plays for, comparatively, peanuts.
He clearly isn't the same closer he was five years ago .
No, he's not... yet he's still the best closer in the league.
Let's see, our best RB ever just retired, our QB is underperforming, and our secondary sucks. Was So let's release our LT (toughest roster spot to fill) and our big free agent LB!
If the Giants don't win a playoff game, this GM should get fired.
Tim and Tom still not making any points and still dishin' out the hate. Better to call people trolls than actually make a coherent argument. I bet everyone that doesn't agree with you is a troll, right Tim?

Dude, what kind of coherent argument do you want? Should I list statistics that list him as a legendary player with numbers that, in our lifetime, won't be matched? All this while playing on a team where guys get paid 18-25 million dollars per season are not nearly as good?
The guy makes $10 million per season where people who couldn't carry his jockstrap are getting 15 and 20 million, and you're calling him greedy? And you didn't make a point either.
