New King in Town: Deuce Seven

Winter is usually a quiet time for New York graffiti-- but Deuce Seven has been warming up the scene for the last month. Pieces have appeared all over LES, Williamsburg, and even up on Williamsburg Bridge. No clue where the artist is from-- although the earliest pictures on Flickr seem to indicate a Midwest extraction-- possibly Minneapolis?

Tons more pix on Flickr-- try the "Deuse Seven" variant spelling as well.

And speaking of New York streetart-- Neckface actually released a pair of Vans this week-- there's a huge billboard advertising them on Houston and Lafayette. Selling out has never looked so good! Sadly, no info yet on where you can pick these up.

fuck all of those bitch ass haters! D7 will fight your bitch ass!

  • sparky

yes, he is from minneapolis. for a while, he was painting these amazing fish in the same style. early on, he would wheat-paste drawings of these sort of eskimo-stick people.

on the bus ride to work to do, i saw that he just hit up some stuff with straight-lettering which was also quite nice.

also, i have to state the obvious, but does anyone that hates grafitti really think their one-dimensional arguments on here would actually change someone's mind?

The shit is stupid ! If you want to be a graf artist get a legal spot and use that . Do it legally stop & fucking up public property !

  • Gwinny

If this dude painted on my bike, that would be the coolest bike EVER.

  • Asa

Artist may be from Memphis, note Mmphis in lower left of piece on right, 2d row.

His work blows to me, but my tastes in graf run trad.

  • Annoyed

If you hate Gothamist so much why are you still reading and commenting? You people are so weird.

I myself like the look. They remind me of Little Shop of Horror - with faces.

As for hating on street art and "reporting more on NYC," NYC is home to some of the best artists in the world, and a lot of them are into street art. And it's good shit. I'm no artist, nor do I know anything about graffiti, but I can appreciate a bad ass piece of art that I look forward to passing my daily commute.

Then let him paint it on your car. Or your bike. Or in your living room if you own one.

Yes, Deuce Seven is a Minneapolite- there was a 27 piece on the side of my apt building here (Mpls) that made my day every time I saw it. I'm a huge fan!

Schizophrenics and psychotics are two entirely different animals.

Schizophrenia is someone who has disorganiszed thoughts, delusions, social issues, hallucinations, trouble with cognition etc.

A psychotic is someone who has no conscience, and poor impulse control or manipulative behaviors.

Predators are typically referred to as psychotic. They use charm, manipulation, intimidation, and violence to control others and to satisfy their own selfish needs. Lacking in conscience and in feelings for others, they cold-bloodedly take what they want and do as they please, violating social norms and expectations without the slightest sense of guilt or regret.[1]

These remind me of the schizophrenic guy who painted cats. I wonder if the guy is psychotic.

you need to ease the fuck up on the post button, dumbass.

now, why oh why has nobody made a "douche seven" joke?

  • mm

    Stop celebrating thugs.

  • Fundamentalist

Gothamist should only be about pandas, Law & Order, Google Maps mashups, and graffiti.

  • yaya

    Yo people.

Ya'll need to ease the fuck up on this guy and Gothamist for reporting street art.

First of all, I ride over the Wburg bridge every day and this is the best piece I've seen in over a year. Someone is obviously going to tag there, so get over it.

Ya'll need to relax and quit taking your anger out on a comment blog.

    what.

  • Stunning.

    ncm:

    well played.

  • Gwinny

I agree with Dan: I think this is very awesome street art and would love it if it were on my building instead of the ugly tags we usually get... Alas, my landlord quickly gets rid of ugly and pretty street art alike (she had my super remove a fabulous Swoon cutout in record time).

  • ncm

For example: this was taken on 1/6/07.

  • ncm

The graffiti on the bridge plague changes semi-weekly. 27 did it a favor, that the best I've seen it look.

  • ncm

The graffiti on that bridge plaque changes about once a week. Deuce Seven did it a favor--that's the best I've ever seen it look.

  • anomalous

That Neckface story is from June!

  • jimmyjames

    Eff Neckface.

  • yawni

i too find it annoying how much attention is given on this site to "street art".

it really detracts from this being an otherwise good blog about nyc.

make up your mind: is this a graffiti fanboy site, or a nyc blog?

  • Matthew

Certainly more interesting than tagging a name but defacing that bridge plaque is plain juvenile.

  • A true artist. Great work.

  • Tom

Why glamorize criminal defacement of public property? Tard.

  • me

"Neckface actually released a pair of Vans this week"

god, you sound like such a star fucker.

  • chris

I love trust funded out of town street art as much as the next guy, but I don't like this stuff. And on to put that on the bridge plaque, that's super lame. Go home noob.

  • anonymass

    Splasher, where are thou?

  • jtg

Yet another "street art" post with 4 huge pictures. Post this shit on your own blog please.

  • not a fan

he should go back to wherever he came from and cover it with his shitty art.

  • Dan

before all the graffiti haters pile on, i'd like to say that looks really awesome. i want that on my apt front door, not some assholes writing their name.

  • jtg

You know you're going to catch hell for yet another "street art" post with 4 huge pictures right? Post this shit on your own blog.

  • Kevin Walsh

Now, did he HAVE to paint over that plaque on the Williamsburtg Bridge?

    Classy.
