Well looks like a fire trap to me. How many seats does this hold? If a fire broke out in the kitchen how would you leave? Esp. if your hammered on all that taquila.

I can't believe anyone is still reviewing La Esquina. The tequila menu sounds like a pretty lame reason to put yourself through the "cooler than thou" secret password bulls*t. I'm assuming the meal and drinks were comped...

"On the nose were soft notes of vanilla, orange peel and smoke". That does not sound appealing in the least. Sounds like the smell of a kitchen following an afterhours boozing.

As someone who lives across the street from La Esquina, I can tell you that most people go there for one reason and one reason only: to get hammered. I seriously doubt their customers notice or care if their tequila has "aromas of toasted walnuts and butterscotch." And if you're looking for Mexican food, Mexican Radio across the street has better food and you don't have to "journey down a dingy staircase through a steamy, bustling kitchen" in order to get it, either.

I think the whole gimmick is the whole "act" one must go through to gain entry to this place. Sounds like a gimmick to me. or should I say a whole rigamaroll.

I've been to the downstairs of La Esquina and was totally underwhelmed. The only place worse in the city is Double 7. Trend victims will swallow any bucket of horse s**t in the name of exclusivity.

Since when is a phenominal tequilia list a gimmick? The draw of La Esquina wasn't the hoopla at the entrance, it was the collection of carefully selected tequilas and well made dishes. More restaurants should have "gimmicks" like that.
