Hot Sake - Food News You Can Use

2006_03_food_Hot Sake2.jpg- Restaurant Girl reports that Gary Robbins has jumped ship on the giant, long-listing cruse liner The Russian Tea Room.

- Ganda scores a coup with Gawker Emily Gould for her You Are What You Eat series. Expect it to be as notable for the crisp, clean shot of the beautiful Ms. Gould as nuggets such as “I was a vegetarian for 10 years, and I still have a hard time with cuter animals.” In related news, Adam cops to cribbing his Grilled feature from Ganda and the accompanying interview brings the story full circle.

- 10 ways to move “beyond ketchup and mustard”, we always wondered about Bragg, do any of you cook with it?

- Relocated: Sal’s Pizza on Ave A to the location of the unmissed Lucky Burger.
- Closed: Flor’s Kitchen on First Avenue.
- Opened: Parigot, a new French restaurant at Grand and Lafayette. It is a small spot, still BYOB and you can not do better than their $16.50 3 course prix fix lunch - last Tuesday we grabbed country pate, steak frites and profiteroles in under an hour.

- Michael Harlan Turkell’s new photoblog (PLOG) was mentioned in one of last weeks Tidbits section, and now already this week you can see it come to life in the form a photo exhibition out in Gowanus. For those interesting in going to the opening, it's Sunday, February 18, 7-11PM, Mule Café, 67 4th Ave, Bergen St and St Marks Place, Brooklyn. The work on his site is great and we are completely wondering what “secret bacon” is on the photo below. Use the comments to guess what restaurant this kitchen board is in and we will send over a Gothamist T-Shirt.

Of course you can also see more of Michael’s work weekly on Eater with the Gatekeepers series.

- Out of the inbox from New York based writer Jim Jazwiecki, “went to nish (formerly march) last night and really liked it. best part? the 15 unpasteurized cheeses. i'd always wanted to at least try real brie, but my friends and i got everything and it was insanely indulgent.” Not too much press about the changeover of March Restaurant to the eponymous Nish, but good to hear that even though it was slated to go more casual for the relaunch they are still taking their cheese seriously, engaging Fromages.com to provide their well-regarded wares. Bonus info: The cheese library on Fromages.com is an excellent reference for about 200 varieties of French cheese; expect to find information about milk type, region of origin, age and production style.

- More from the inbox, a reminder from a wise friend to remember the Greenmarket farmers during these icy cold weeks, they hold up to the “nor rain, nor sleet, nor snow” credo as good as the postal crew – certainly better than the NYC Traffic officers. Le Snacklady often knows best.

Let's get totally meta: You Are What You Eat was inspired by Gawker favorite Andrew Krucoff's interviews, which appeared weekly right here on Gothamist.
