A clip is not a magazine. A clip is what you'd use to load a magazine with. Or a revolver. Or a M1 Garand. Just as examples.

With the exception of a few states (like NY/NJ/MD/MA/CA), it is not illegal to purchase or own a 20 or 30 round magazine (of recent manufacture). NJ, for example, allows magazines with a capacity of up to 15 rounds.

Actually the clip could come from other cleaning crews or those who service the plane. It could have been a plant for someone to pick up later.

It is illegal to buy a new 26 round clip new today however you can buy them used and if you have one, you are grandfathered.

Oh yes, because Kerry would/could/should have done better. Excuse me while I roll my eyes.

Blame Bush -- it's the easiest thing to do.

the TSA is not that great an agency
I hereby nominate Jen Chung for biggest understatement of 2007. TSA and Homeland Security are just like everything else this administration has produced -- all fear-based and no good results to show for it. Does anyone care about what color threat level it is anymore?

Well, It's nice to that they clean the planes . My problem with this story is, Why make something like this public ? With all the terrorist threats out there why bring something like this to light . You just warned someone who may have been planning something big . Someone whom might have been associated with an organazation that we've been trying to get !

great, now the airlines aren't gonna allow people to carry bullets on the plane anymore. I guess the next thing will be no more Katana swords on board either. WTF???!!!!

My old firm used to do consulting for TSA - phenomenal incompetence abounds. Ditto for the Dept of Homeland Security, another client.

The problem with so many of the post 9/11 initiatives is the neocons gave out contracts and jobs based on ideology or party loyalty. This administration makes Tammany Hall seem squeaky-clean.

I've been waiting for years for a massive corrupt contracts scandal to hit the mainstream media. Seems as if we won't see it for another two years, if ever.

It all depends on the gun make, caliber, and whether or not the magazine is a hicap mag. It's highly unlikely it's for a Glock, but at 25 rounds it sounds an awful lot like either a subgun or rifle mag.

you'd be hard pressed to find a magazine for a glock with 26 rounds. Seems like a bulkier weapon than a glock. glocks typically have 12-16 bullets in each magazine. federal agents carry a load of 16 while civilians carry typically 12-13.

either way, it's good to see water is still the number one thing screeners are looking for.

yeah yeah, we all know about gun/weapons stuff being illegal in airports and on flights. The point I was making is that a 26 round clip is not just your average clip. So the owner of the 26 round clip is not your average gun owner...

"The Post says the plane had stopped in Miami and San Juan before landing in NYC;"

...no surprised

Oh like that would not happen out of New Orleans,Detroit, or any other one of the many crime ridden cities in America. Don't be so ignorant, Miami is not scarface and San Juan is not the Westside story.

michael: as the other commenter said, any kind of bullet/magazine/etc is illegal on an airplane, and i'm pretty sure that's a federal thing.

in new york state the maximum handgun magazine capacity is 10 rounds (at least if you're not law enforcement.) there's only like one or two other states that have that stricture, so the restriction is more of a pain in the ass than anything else.

Just a month ago, I had to escort my younger, underaged brother onto a flight since he was traveling alone. Along the way, the TSA stripped him clean of his Poland spring water bottle, and a 7 oz. tube of Crest.

The kicker is after he boarded the airplane and when sitting down he realizes that he was carrying his CO2-fired Desert Eagle replica BB gun. Luckily he kept his mouth shut about it over the 11-hour flight.

I think on an airplane, Michael, an anything-round clip is illegal. This is a great example of why this "added" security measures are idiotic. Just scan people for weapons and bombs and let them take on anything else. As long as the cockpit door is reinforced, nothing we will happen. This whole TSA thing just adds stress to flying.

With the way they clean planes these days that clip could be from anytime in the last four months.
