- Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: small fire at 110 Livingston Street in Brooklyn Heights, a special delivery (a lady had a baby in her apartment) in Queens and a double fatal three alarm fire in Bay Ridge.
- The cost of a hot-dog sales permit for the spot in front of the Metropolitan Museum costs $100,000 per year.
- Coming soon to a cab near you: touch screen LCDs.
- No video in the history of Extra, Extra has made us more uncomfortable than this one. So! Disturbing!
- The Eric Brown meme has really reached a ridiculous new low.
- If you like graffiti, and don't mind making a trip to Bushwick, the Just Seeds art sale benefit is going on tonight-- tons of great streetartists are selling work under $50.
- Did you know that pepper spray is legal in New York City? And it's the recommended method for fighting off wild dogs in Prospect Park?

"don't mind making a trip to Bushwick"? what kind of classist shit is that??
holy shit! a lady had a baby in her apartment! that's insane!
oh wait, it isn't because people have babies in their homes all the freaking time! it's called homebirth.
Funny... the article says that the Hot Dog vendor license for outside of the Met costs $300,000.... but that's merely a detail
yes..that 15 minute "trek" to Bushwick from Union Square must be awful. bring some flares in case an emergency rescue is needed.
that vendor sh!t is insane! the article mentions the exploitation of foreign workers, but only in passing
That pic is amazing.
But let's be honest. Gothamist is the site you love to hate. I mean, really, what is with these people. I thought Jake was a Brooklyn native?
I am from Chicago and would never say "don't mind taking a trip to the south side?" cause, you know why? That's some racist white boy shit. Not only that, the south side is full of great things. I can only imagine bushwick is too.
as*sholes.
And I bet all of you guys had some college too... it's called IRONY.
actually, pepper spray can further anger a dog that is already agitated. The best method is a citronella spray that just repels rather than attempts to incapacitate. Dog walkers recommended it to me, and you can get it at pets stores (usually). It's also more humane (though, if you think the dog is going to attack you, that's probably not your main concern).
pretty sure jake is commenting on many residents' lack of interest in leaving one's own borough or neighborhood or bubble. he's not necessarily being classist. sheesh.
Great photo! I just set it as my wallpaper.
That picture is excellent!
judging by the sharptonesque overreacting nutjobs, i'm guessing that bushwick is a predominantly 'ethnic' neighborhood? get over yourselves.
Just read about the Cuddle Parties in TimeOut, now they're here on Gothamist... totally creepy. I get enough strangers touching me on the subway, thank you very much.
Maybe I should start recommending Cuddle Parties to them?
