The "New Coney Island" Gets A Website

If technology can see into the future, then the future is clearly Vegas for Coney Island. Gowanus Lounge looks at the new Coney Island website launched by Thor Equities' PR firm to trumpet the New Coney Island: THE FUTURE OF CONEY ISLAND.

GL notes, "The site focuses on new amusements, job opportunities, community and retail opportunities. It omits mention of more controversial plans to develop luxury housing highrises on the boardwalk." And, boy howdy, does it! The site has an entrancing sound bite-heavy Flash Intro. Here are some screencaps:

And, for some other Coney Island delights, did you realize there are Nathan's Gummi Hot Dogs?

Let me take a step back & reminise for a moment....... Ok, Whatever is built out in Coney Island will never be acceptable . We're not talking about a ballpark here . That was to the benefit of the neighborhood . This project will wipeout the lower class, & change the makeup of the surrounding area . It's not going to work, Just think you have the project a few blocks away . That in itself is already causing problems for the yuppies moving into the area . I was on my way home from visiting friends out their & saw these people getting robbed right in front of the W.8 st. station . That's a regular occurrance for which will increase with the flush of "New" money funneling into the area . It's exactly what's happening in Parkslope now .

They can remodel the entire area all they want... its not going to change the fact that there are monkeys walking around flinging trash on the ground without any second thought.

Shmurf: You mean there is a sudden crime wave in Park Slope because new money has flooded in recently?

Shmurf is full of crap. West 8th street entrance hasn't been open in years...

I WOULD LIKE TO NO HOW ARE THE GONNA KEEP ALL THE GANGS OUT OF THE PARK WHEN IT OPENS BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DO IT BEFORE . ORLANDO 23 OCEANTOWERS

That's the W.8 St. station you jackass ! Who the hell said anything about a aprticular exit ? "Pap(smur)smurf" Yes there is a crime wave going through Parkslope "Sockmobbit", Read the papers . If you were in there position and a bunch of money came into your midst wouldsn't you want some ? I believe the Gothamist had a story about this a couple of weeks ago . Listen to "Orlando" seems to know what going on over there . you can't going out to the beach to chill without taking the chance of someone trying to jerk you . The cops aren't interested in stopping the crime out in most of Coney Island . As far as my terming "New Money ", It goes as followed : If you are either from a higher tax bracket, or Your just "well off" & you move into a neighborhood full of lower income folk . You are infusing the area with your money ! That being "New Money", The more "New Money" moving into a poor neighborhood the more changes it will envoke . That's all I meant

If you think that this 1.5 billion dollar investment isn't going to change things then you are crazy. Coney has been slowing changing over the last 20 years. Just look at it in 1987 and look at it now. This investment will change things, regardless of who lives in the area and crime in Coney. There is no safe neighborhood in NYC. Except maybe Seagate!

Your wrong "Patrick" there are safe neighborhoods in NY . A couple are (for the most part) are Fort Greene, Brooklyn Heights, Dyker Heights, Clinton Hill,ETC . Yeah cause they got that big ole gate ! Not to mention the full time security . Oh, Almost forgot they have the benfit of police protection there . Cops love safe havens
