Ronell Wilson's Death Row Prison Tantrum

2007_02_brokwind.jpgConvicted cop killer Ronell Wilson angered the judge presiding over his trial when a warden told him Wilson broke the "shatterproof" windows in a prison visiting room. Wilson, who was sentenced to death for the murders of two undercover police detectives and is at the Metropolitan Detention Center awaiting formal sentencing, threw a chair at the windows when he found out a visit from his mother and sister would be "non-contact" (his previous visits had allowed him touch his relatives). There was a four-hour standoff, with a SWAT team waiting, until Wilson gave up.

Wilson allegedly said, “I’m a death penalty inmate; I don’t have anything to lose. If you want to get hard, I can get violent.” Well, Judge Nicholas Garaufis said he could get hard, too. Garaufis, who presided over his trial and had authorized the visit, saw photographs of the damage and said, "I'm angry! He can make it easy or he can make it hard. The next time it's going to be extremely hard. I'm not having anyone's safety compromised by Mr. Wilson, Never again!"

Judge Garaufis noted that Wilson's letter of remorse mentions maturity and that he would send Wilson to a more secure penitentiary farther away if needed. On Sunday, the NY Times' Michael Brick looked at how sticking his tongue out at his victims' family when he was sentenced to death might impact Wilson later on.

Well the guy has lost just about everything . Sometimes family is that last straw binding ones sanity . Why did they bar him from contact from his family ? He's gonna die anyway so what's the problem !

    Ronell Wilson is a turd

    who ..upon closer inspection

seems to warrant the use of

    a TRIPLE-dose injection

  • Justice

WEvneed to send Wilson to be executed in a state that does it by CHAINSAW ..and SLOWLY.

  • blah

"the ghetto made him do it" theory is getting really stale and working-class whites are getting really tired of the whole "if he was white, he'd be rich and not have any problems" bs. ralph "bucky" phillips is a cop killer, too. he's white and didn't grow up in the ghetto. both he and mr. wilson are just trash. skin color has nothing to do with it. zap them both and the next sob that crosses the line too.

God Bless YOU Reverend Al sharpton.

    true ColOrs.

I too look at these stories and think to myself, how could this have been different. Had Wilson been born a crack baby, but adopted to a wealthy family, chances are he'd be at Yale smoking grass and studying law. However, he was not. He was born, allegedly addicted to crack, abused by his wonderful loving family, and left to fend for his own in a dirty shit ridden ghetto filled with thousands of other degenerates like himself.

It sucks. What can we do to reverse this? For starters we can get people like Al Sharpton, defender of all black families, to help the black community instead of teaching them to play the blame game; "corrupt nypd, corrupt public schools, corrupt judiciary system, corrupt this, corrupt that..."

Who the hell does he think he is? He recently lead a protest down Fifth Avenue to protest the shooting of Sean Bell. What exactly did that accomplish? He lead a protest outside of NYPD central command—What exactly did that accomplish?

Perhaps, for starters, if he was more willing to help his brethren, he would lead protests outside of Rikers condemning the violent behavior of young and old black women and men, instead he leads a protest down fifth avenue... seems a little suspicious, media whoring and counter productive to me...

Any ideas from any of you? What can we, as the people of New York, do to help the black community? To help any unfortunate person with less than us?

"There was a four-hour standoff, with a SWAT team waiting, until Wilson gave up."

What a joke. How much does 4 hours of SWAT sitting around cost us in taxes?

  • ahhh

I always wondered what happen to all of the crack-babies from the late 80s to mid 90s. This is frightening.

  • Dude, edEx, I'm not saying he should be forgiven for what he did based on his sanity or IQ. I always look at stories such as this one with the same logic: How did this person get to be this way and what can be done to avoid it from happening to other kids/adults in the future.

  • "If you want to get hard, I can get violent."

Wow, this kid's going to love the prison yard. I'd put the over/under at about five days before someone real tough has at him.

  • 2 live and die in LA

    We've got nothing in common,

    Nothing to lose.

    everybody Wang Chung tonight.

  • Retarded or not, Wilson was mentally fit to stand trial for the cold blooded executions of two police officers. His problem, he doesn't like being caged—this has nothing to do with his IQ.

    Let him rot.

  • I can't remember if this is correct or not as well, but I seem to remember the news reporting that he was born addicted to crack and abused(?). I may be combining my stories, however. So don't hold me to that.

  • Peter

I hadn't heard anything about Wilson's being retarded, but it wouldn't surprise me. According to various surveys the median IQ score of prison inmates is 85, a full standard deviation below average and not all that far above the mentally retarded mark (generally either 70 or 75).

  • Thanks, Jen. I had heard that at one point and wasn't sure where it went. Either way, I imagine that for his defense to make said claim, his IQ must be stunted quite a bit.

Sad story all around. How is it people get to be this way? Scares the shit out of me.

  • Jen Chung

It's unclear whether Wilson is retarded; his defense definitely tried to make that case, but, for whatever reason, it didn't seem to hold up. He does seem to be emotionally stunted, yet he did ask his lawyers not to appeal the case so his family wouldn't be put through another trial.

  • Not trying to be typical and shitty, but didn't they report that he is actually mentally retarded? Is anything being done to address that while he's in prison?

  • where's al sharpton when you need him to condemn this animal's actions?

  • Max

    oooooo- u deep.

    please be the bullet

  • hard nook life

    Good for you. Mr. wilson.

Whitey don't understand that if you have nothing to lose, you have nothing to lose.

whitey keep on chasing the dream. Welcome to the nightmare. that night will come.

  • jammer

can't they just put him in front of the firing squad? just get it over with, instead of keeping this a-hole alive with my tax dollars. he's a miserable baby.

  • a

I think he should get a 2nd death penalty for this outburst.

  • MT

He said it himself. He has nothing to lose. What's more dangerous than that?
