Six Alarm Fire Rages Through Queens

Last night, an apartment building in Far Rockaway caught fire, forcing hundreds of people to evacuate their homes in the cold weather. By the time firefighters arrived to Neilson Street, flames were already shooting through the windows. The fire spread to the house next door, and the Long Island Power Authority and Con Ed shut off the power to area customers in order to protect firefighters.

One resident told WNBC 4, "I didn't want to wait until someone told me to leave -- I seen how big and how serious the fire was." Five people had injuries, but no one was seriously hurt.

Authorities do not believe the fire was intentionally set. The Red Cross is now helping 50 people find shelter.

I'm glad that nobody got hurt during that incident! News like this would really make someone install some alarm systems, or what, in his place. Who wouldn't want his shelter or area to be totally secured, though? I guess everyone should have to be alert all the time regarding these matters, still.
