The Day After Groundhog Day
Hoorah! WNBC has a clip of Sue Simmons's Groundhog Impression, 2007 edition from yesterday's newscast. How did the WNBC anchor start imitating woodland creatures?
Sue says her imitation of the groundhog face actually began before she came to New York, when she was a reporter in New Haven. On Groundhog Day one year, she ended a live shot with the groundhog face, and for weeks, people kept coming up to her asking for a repeat performace. And everyone is pretty happy - global warming fears aside - about many groundhogs predicting an early spring. The Daily News has the cutest picture of Staten Island Chuck from yesterday's Groundhog Dog ceremony at the Staten Island Zoo.
As for last night's rain, surprising but necessary - it washed away all the crap on sidewalks.

I don't know about the rest of the city, but as of this morning we still had sidewalks on the UWS.
That must have been some powerful rain that "washed away all the sidewalks."
man that lady sue simmons drives me CRAZY. she is seriously the worst news anchor i have ever seen. and i come from south carolina, home of many crappy things!
sue simmons is actually quite popular... she has been sitting at the anchor desk on wnbc since 1980. if she drives u crazy, maybe u should switch the channel.
don't talk about my sue simmons like that! If you were a woman, I'd punch you in the ovaries. Sue and Chuck are awesome personified.
or even better move back to South Carolina (unless Kristy is really HOT, then she can look me up).
How can anyone say that about Sue Simmons?
She is a native New Yorker, Mets fan and has been at WNBC since 1980. How anyone not like Sue is beyond me, but I have watched for years. She is serious when she needs to be, and knows how to handle the light fluffy stories, like say Groundhog Day.
If you want bad news anchors, just switch over to channel 2, 5 or 9.
