ART: Running through March 7th at Gavin Brown's enterprise at Passerby is "Radical Living Papers". Some of the passionate writers of forty years ago will have their words become a part of this exhibit, which serves as a snapshot of the Vietnam War era and a history of counter-culture and alt press. Publications (all from the 60s and 70s) include Rolling Stone, The Black Panther, Freep, The Seed and the Los Angeles Free Press.

Friday // Opening Reception, 6 to 8pm // Gavin Brown’s Enterprise at Passerby [436 W 15th St] // Free

ERS.jpgTHEATER: Elevator Repair Service’s No Great Society riffs wildly on the transcripts of two legendary television appearances made by a sodden Jack Kerouac in ’59 and ’68. The four-person cast is absolutely brilliant: Susie Sokol delights in Kerouac’s incoherence while honoring his inspired dignity, while Scott Shepherd and Vin Knight are both a panic as counter-culture pundits from opposing camps. And anyone who’s ever marveled at William F. Buckley’s pedantic droning will be thrilled by Ben Williams’s pitch-perfect skewering. Although last year’s original production at P.S. 122 lacked some of the delirious propulsive energy we’ve come to expect from ERS, the Times hailed it as “a joy from start to finish”. Nevertheless, we’re quite curious to see it again with a fresh pair of eyes. - John Del Signore

THEATER: We’d usually steer clear of any play with actors portraying High School students and this kind of OMG promotional blurb: “When uber-popular Vickie Martin joins the all-male math team, chaos theory becomes the rule at Longwood High School. Can this goddess of Pi possibly make the mathletes victorious? Totally.” But according to, like, everybody (except the Times, which is like, soooo over anyway), Victoria Martin: Math Team Queen is “the biggest and best surprise of the season”. Insider theater blogger Moxie the Maven had fun too, despite the stench unleashed by a two-course Wendy’s "meal" consumed by two gluttonous spectators in the front row. ENDS SUNDAY! - John Del Signore

Sunday // 3pm // Women's Project [424 West 55th Street] // Tickets
