EVENT: Nerd Alert! Come on by for Nerd Night tonight at Orchid Lounge where there are two geeked out presentations awaiting you. Presentation #1: "Genesis Rules! Wait, I Meant To Say Neurogenesis". Something about Adult Neurogenesis and Phil Collins, or something. Presentation #2: "TETROMINOWLEDGE: How Four Blocks, Arranged In Different Patterns, Have Changed the World, Kind Of". This one is mostly about Tetris. So put the Wii down and get out of the house.

7pm // Orchid Lounge [500 E 11th St (between Aves A and B)] // Free

2007_02_arts_blackangels.jpgMUSIC: Pianos has a packed lineup tonight, and we suggest you head there for at least one of the bands: The Black Angels. Not to be confused with The Black Keys, The Black Spoons or any of those other dark bands. This Austin band is friggin' good, so catch 'em at a small venue while you can.

Listen: The First Vietnamese War.mp3 - The Black Angels

9pm // Pianos [158 Ludlow St] // $8

THEATER: “Has your hair ever betrayed you, saved your life or set you free?” This is the question posed by Split Ends, a solo performance piece written and performed by Venus Opal Reese that opens tonight at LaMaMa. Framed around the tangled history of black women’s hair, the show incorporates video, song, movement, mime and case studies compiled during one hundred interviews with American women of African ancestry. The San Francisco Weekly says Split Ends “brought down the house… a kind of Vagina Monologues about loving your own kinky black hair.” - John Del Signore

10pm // La MaMa E.T.C. [74A East 4th Street] // Tickets cost $15
