NYC should do something like the federal government did a few years ago - like 'operation dipscam'.

If people faked their degrees in the fire department, I'm sure they faked them everywhere....

What it didn't say in the article was whether or not these individuals were capable, efficent or good at their jobs. Perhaps that is something the department should look at, and if these people are good at their jobs, despite their lack of college credit/diploma, maybe the FDNY should reevaluate their requirements.

I understand that we don't want complete morons trying to protect us, but there are many kinds of intelligence, only some of which are assessed in a class setting.

I'm fairly well educated, and one of the things that I recognize about myself is that I test very well. I am also very aware that there are a lot of people smarter than I am who, on paper, would not seem to be.

"Which means there was two years for the FDNY to figure things out."

All politics aside, you remind me so much of President Bush.

If you rewrite it this way, "(We) wonder why it took two years for the FDNY to reach this conclusion?", you would get your point across much more clearly and intelligently.
