Wednesday Food News: Early Edition

gramsay.jpgBruni two-stars Gordon Ramsay at the London. Echoing the words of others we've heard from around town, he finds conventional French food, well executed. "But the restaurant fails to deliver the most important thing of all," he says. "Excitement."

And Eater puts their money on two stars this week, but their own bet on three. So they sort of get it, but sort of don't.

Also in the Times, Peter Meehan goes to Acasa in Queens for Romanian food. He loves the desserts, and any of the dishes with mamaliga (Romanian polenta). Also manages to use the sphinx mural on the restaurant wall to throw in a Superbowl prediction: the bears will take it.

In the NY Sun, Paul Adams goes to SavorNY for tapas from around the world. Loves the ruben empanadas, the crab Rangoon and the honey mustard. What does he like the most? Savor NYs "sense of leisure."

Steve Cuozzo at the Post laments the relatively short lives of some of the city's Spanish restaurants, but is very happy to find that Ureña has outlived some of its larger, big-money-backed competition, like Barca 18. He urges readers to visit, and describes the suckling pig as so juicy and succulent that "you can drink it."

  • huh?

Not being familiar with Eater's rating system, it wasn't clear. Sounds like you guys are. But reading Gothamist, it wasn't all that clear. You're acting as if I'm the first person to complain about Gothamist's writing quality!

  • huh? is dumb

Sounds like "huh?" needs to spend time working on his/her reading comprehension skills instead of attacking writers.

  • anomalous

In this case I think the confusion is with Eater. They put odds on the stars but often don't choose their best bet.

  • BDT

To be fair, it is Eater that makes it complicated. They post logical odds and then bet emotionally against themselves.

  • huh?

"And Eater puts their money on two stars this week, but their own bet on three."

What does this sentence even mean? That Eater did or didn't get it right?

Why can't any of the Gothamist writers, um, write?

  • AP Style

Super Bowl. Two words. Capital letters.
