actually water is the best thing to drink with hot choco..., that's how they serve it in european cafes (whose cocoas most of these purveyors are trying to imitate) la maison du chocolat and vosges have the best hot chocolate in the city, a perfect treat on these freezing cold days!!

Uh, that City Bakery hot chocolate could make one go into anaphalactic shock. It's pretty good, though.

I find City Bakery's hot chocolate to be almost too rich to drink. I had a pretty darn good cup of hot choc just last night at Tea Lounge... Will have to try Pierre Marcolini's hot choc as their chocolates are incredible.

11 Madison a few years ago had awesome hot chocolate, claimed to be the dessert chef's specialty, with delightful homemade marshmallows. I'm not sure if they still have it; haven't been back for a while.

@SQC, which closed last year, had a crazy hot chocolate that was like drinking pudding. Hot chocolate also needs milk to wash it down - next time I hope they add what kind of organic milk we should be drinking with it.

They left out the very best hot chocolate I've tasted in Manhattan - Michel Cluizel's at ABC Carpet and Home, on Broadway and 19th St. I've tried City Bakery, Mariebelle (also very good, might be tied for best), Jacques Torres, La Maison du Chocolate, Otto, and Max Brenner, so I know of which I speak.

Joe The Art of The Coffee has European drinking chocolate (regular or spicy) which is really great!
