Update on Abused NJ Dog

2007_01_katiedog.jpgLast week, we had a brief mention about a terrible dog cruelty case in NJ. A pit bull puppy was critically injured after being sodomized; she was found in a pool of her own blood in a Newark apartment building. The Humane Society was looking for information to find who committed the crime, and now it turns out that many people were so moved by the story that another $7,000 was raised. A total of $12,000 is being offered as a reward for any information leading to the arrest of the person(s) who were involved.

The Associated Humane Societies, which is NJ's largest sheltering system, also reports that the 10 month old puppy, now named Kate, is doing much better. When the dog initially arrived, she was in "shock and was extremely cold...Her body had already started to shut down - dehydration, traumatic shock, watery diarrhea, all contributed to her condition." Now, Kate "has greatly improved and even chewed through her IV which was giving her nutrition."

If you want to donate money to the Associated Human Societies, you can donate to either their ResQ Fund or their general fund.

Sick Fucks. I hope they get the same treatment in pound-me-in-the-ass prison once they get caught.

Its amazing how animals get more sympathy and donations than humans. Especially donations.

That's simply not true that animals get more charitable donations than humans.
I personally donate money, time, and in-kind items to numerous worthy causes, including organizations that help people and animals. The people come first, but abused or homeless animals need our help too. In fact many issues that affect animals have an impact on humans as well. Someone who abuses an animal is also more likely to abuse another human being. Animal abuse should be discouraged, and monetary donations to support that are supporting the discouragement of abuse against humans as well.

Thanks for posting the update, Gothamist. I was just wondering about this last night.

It is amazing that animals get more sympathy and donations than humans.
and comments, too.

Another thing to note about Kate: According to the vet that treated her, if she was brought in a 1/2 hour later, she would have died.

Well everyone knows its because a person who does this will likely do this to a person too. Do you want this done to your daughter, too? Yuck. I hope they catch this guy.

humans ARE animals.

i'd guess that a human found sodomized by dogs in a pool of his own blood would probably get more sympathy than this.

Man, do I ever love you guys for writing follow-ups. this is great news, that so many people came forward. I hope that one of this guys friends turns him in for the cash if not because they're a good person.

Seriously, tho, this story makes me cry.

And who gives a shit if people comment and give donations in the name of an animal? What is wrong with you? Who ever said that humans were better than animals anyway? Who made this rule? We're one of the sickest, most selfish species out there. How many other animals do you know that kill their own kind?

Ugh, this whole animal life is lesser than human life debate drives me insane. It's a living. Treat it with respect.

I'm getting myself worked up.

Sorry, that was supposed to be "It's a living BEING."

I used to feel the same way, that animals get more sympathy and why not extend that to people... but now I see differently. For one, animals have no voice, and if we do not protect them and act as responsible stewards they are totally defenseless. Secondly, there is (or should be) more than enough love for animals and people. Why have to choose?

mihow, whoever said humans were better than animals?? i think i made a pretty strong statement when i ate several of them tonight

I trust my dog more than any people around me beacause dogs don't bullshit and lies in front of your face.

Amen to the poster above who said this offender is working their way up to a person, likely a child because they're more defenseless. Stop bitching about relative sympathies and help catch this bastard.

Yeah, he's going to ass fuck more animals up the evolution chain.
At least he wasn't shot 31 times.

Do you know how many animals/pets are abused and destroyed every year? Let's not even begin to talk about where we get our food. Comments about animals getting better treatment is extremely misguided.

I hope Kate gets all the care and attention in the world.

parsnip_lee: love the quote. Thank you for putting it up here. Truly.
