NYCGarages has been re-named as BestParking.com

The new website still includes information on NYC parking garages and rates, but also allows users to book free "Reservations" and "Rate Guarantees" at over 20% of garages. A mobile version of the site is available at http://mobile.bestparking.com.

The service has also expanded to Boston and Philadelphia, with other cities coming shortly.

This site has some nice funtionality. But if you don't usually plan ahead for your parking or you don't like going online while driving, take a look at the new book, Park It NYC - Complete Guide to Parking Garages. It's the indispensable guide to hassle-free parking.

It tells you exact location, hourly and special rates, surcharges, hours of operation, number of spaces, credit cards taken, clearance height, discounts, if elevators are used to transport cars, if vans are allowed, and steepness and length of the driveway. Symbols show which garages accept credit cards, allow reservations, take oversize vehicles, or are noted for their ‘friendliness.’

It also has inside information on how to choose a garage, tipping, understanding the rates, and making a complaint, plus maps, a free chart for calculating the rate with tax and a free Cross-Street Finder chart. Pretty cool.

This site has some nice functionality. But if you aren't someone who plans ahead or doesn't like going online while you're driving, another option is the new book, Park It! NYC: Complete Guide to Parking Garages, which is the indispensable guide to hassle-free parking. It has information on all the 1,113 off-street parking garages and outdoor lots in Manhattan, including the ones above 100th St.

You get the exact location, hourly and special rates, surcharges, hours of operation, number of spaces, credit cards taken, clearance height, discounts, if elevators are used to transport cars, if vans are allowed, and steepness and length of the driveway. Symbols tell you which garages accept credit cards, allow reservations, take oversize vehicles, or are noted for their ‘friendliness.’

There's also inside information on how to choose a garage, tipping, understanding the rates, and making a complaint, plus a free chart for calculating the rates with tax and a free Cross-Street Finder chart.

This is cool, but I think it's important to know about street parking possibilities as well. There are more places to park for free on the street (or cheaply at meters) than most people think. The key is knowing in advance what the regulations are and specifically when streets go from being off-limits for parking to legal. For instance, get to a street that had this regulation "No Parking 8am-6pm (M-F)" at a quarter to 6 and you've got a great, free place to park for the night. Streets with these types of regulations are all over town, including near the Theatre District and MSG.

Apparently by "100% accuracy" they mean "100% accuracy below 100th Street". Check out West 99th and admire the way the garages just suddenly... stop. I had no idea Morningside Heights was now pedestrians only!

Wow. 25 bucks to park your car that you only drove ten blocks and paid thousands of dollars for, so you can watch a 13 dollar a ticket movie with 5 dollar bottled water. So a night on the town for two at a movie is theoretically 200 bucks Plus environmental waste. Yuppies make me sick
