His mother wasn't dead, he told the police that so he could get away with not being arrested the first time they caught him... Must have been one terrible mess. He always said how he wanted to die. I'm glad he didn't take anyone with him in this sick and twisted plot of his. Let's just say his story came to an end and he got the wrong kind of fame he craved.

Hunter does have a large outdoor patio on the roof of the West building. I graduated in 2004, and (back then atleast) the doors were always unlocked. I used to go up there to smoke and study in between classes. It was a nice roof deck. You honestly can't expect the college to lock up such a great place on the off chance that a student is suicidal. Might as well go around childproofing the whole building.

Actually he attempted twice, only to succeed the second time. In his first attempt, the door's alarm went off and the security guards stopped him and told him to leave. The second time he jumped before the guards could reach him. I wouldn't like to be any of these guards right now.

Hunter was not following commonly accepted security procedures. If they had, the door leading to the roof would have been locked. No one is saying that the college could have prevented this tragedy. Not only was Hunter lax in its security procedure, but it was also endangering the lives of the pedestrians below by allowing unimpeded access to its roof. It is basic security that the doors to the roof be locked. Just ask any manager of security at any large public building. How much do you want to bet that those doors leading to the roof are locked now?

I think I might have had a class with this kid, and went to high school with him on top of that. This is sad. As a Hunter student I can easily say that security there is a joke - but I can't say it's the school's fault. This dude would have found another way to commit suicide as jvm basically said.

a person who wants to commit suicide will find a way to commit suicide. hunter college should not be held negligible. if he killed himself by sticking his head in an oven in his dorm room, would they be negligible?
