This "most depressing day" nonsense began a couple of years ago as a PR campaign for a British travel agency. Arnall did not use any math to figure out the depressing day. The travel agency asked him to justify the 4th Monday in January as a day to encourage Brits to make travel plans. Arnall whored himself out and said sure, here's my magical formula. Nevermind that the math makes no sense, the totally non-skeptical media took him at his word because it sounds so good and dutifully reported it as fact.</p>
