  • Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a shooting at the Turkey Nest Tavern in Williamsburg at 4:41am, a police officer struck by car in Farragut, and an armed robbery in Central park at 8:23pm last night.
  • Starbucks is opening its second location in Cobble Hill, and local cafe owners aren't happy: “The rest of us will be killed... because Starbucks’ plan is to saturate every neighborhood until its coffee shop is the last one standing.”
  • The police are looking for three men who raped a woman on the Upper East Side Thursday morning - they pushed their way into her apartment
  • The misspelled "Bleeker" Street signs in the Village still haven't been fixed-- we spotted one on the corner of 6th Avenue yesterday.
  • Constituents that Con Ed knows how to treat well? Its investors, natch
  • One of the Columbia co-eds facing expulsion over the Minuteman fiasco isn't taking it lying down: "We didn't stifle his free speech; we exercised our free speech... we weren't protesting the man's ideas; we were protesting his actions."
  • And there's a wind advisory for tonight: Bundle up!

What a beautiful photograph. It looks like a painting.

Expel her and give her spot to an illegal alien.

  • I've never stepped foot in the Starbucks on Court street so I doubt I will step foot in the one on Smith. I think it's sad they're going to start swallowing up the neighborhood.

  • Bleecker Street is named after Anthony Bleecker.

Would you call it a "turkey shoot"?

Wait: Even Jon Stewart thought she was a crackpot. It's good to see she's no better than George Bush in the ability-to-admit-mistakes department. I agree she shouldn't be expelled but she could acknowledge at least a grain of culpability in how the event turned out. Typical of acvtivistos, she's an angel -- a pure soul fighting for pure justice. Untouchable. My ass.

  • Wait,

She's not facing expulsion from what I understand. That would be a little harsh, no? Why don't you check into that...

Also, Starbucks is terrible. I've been following this group of workers who are trying to unionize the store for a while. www.starbucksunion.org Seems like Starbucks is all it makes itself out to be.

  • Starbucks is a cult...
