Excuuuuse me? Gawker is the Internet equivalent of a disaffected teen with a constant smirk who thinks everyone else in the world--besides his sarcastic, I-hate-everything friends--just doesn't get it. Making sweeping pronouncements about what word is acceptable this week is really fkkng tired. Gawker has been stale for at least 2 years, and really has nothing new to say. Assclown.

anyone else around at the tail end of the late eighties nyc boom? there were tons of places like this. by 92, many of them were closed, the market tanking out, people realizing a condo is crappy equity and leaving town and causing some of the cookie-cutter fly by night velvet rope clubs to lose clientele. coming soon?

All of NYC nightlife is getting a little late too 80's American Psycho-ish. I usually end up trying too hard to convince myself that I am having a good time. Momma if that’s movin’ up then I'm movin’ out. I'll be somewhere with a 2.50 pint in my hand with the tragically un-hip. It’ll probably save me from an STD or two anyway.

i go there for brunches sometimes on sundays, take my out-of-towner friends (and in-towner friends) there too, not a bad deal they had, (brunch plate (good food) and three drinks for $15) and the staff were congenial. got any leads on where i can get a brunch like that now?

Probably not a newsflash, but Gothamist isn't nearly as cutting edge as some of you assume. "Douchbaggery" is due a quick death after having made the rounds and suffered from overuse at other comment driven blogs. Blogs where decent writing is appreciated and where the user base doesn't put up with hackneyed it-words for longer than a week or two (think Gawker). Anyway, I hear ya hs.

Newsflash: 3/4 of the bars in the LES are over-run by what you refer to as "douchebags" pretty much every weekend. Whether it's pretentious, untalented IPOD-DJ's (and their "let's suck in the cheeks aren't I hip?" crowds): yes, I'm referring to Misshapes, Ultrahrrl, et al.) or the "uptowners" you describe. Here's another newsflash: The bridge & tunnel crowds & the "Uptowners" - (haven't heard this term since 1985), are the ONLY reason 3/4 of those bars (probably half the ones you hang out at) are in business in the first place. (weird to concieve of right?) An obvious dis-pleasure with an establishment is one thing, but the closing of businesses and people losing revenue is never anything to celebrate. You should try being on the opposite end of the spectrum and you might find the 'hipster-blogger-isn't that ironic?' attitude suddenly seems about as genuine as the eyeliner-clad dumbasses that turned the LES into a joke in the first place. Watch this place get converted to condos, and more horrible (uh-oh and tasteless!) people might move in. I actually like your postings most of the time, but it's clear you suffered from a synaptic mis-fire here.
