NY State has the most semifinalists in the Intel Science Talent Search, with 117 entrants out of 300. Eighteen semifinalists are from NYC public schools. Here's the breakdown: Stuyvesant has 7; Bronx Science has 6; Townsend Harris, SI Tech, Murrow, Midwood and Brooklyn Tech each have 1. Mayor Bloomberg said, "It's another testament to the quality of our schools." Well, it's a testament to seven schools, at least.
Forty finalists will be chosen on January 31. Last year, no one from a NYC public school made it, but don't worry - each semi-finalist gets $1,000 and his or her schools gets $1,000.
And here's the list of semi-finalists for NY State.

Say what you want about nerds/geeks/dorks, but after they graduate and start bringing in some serious cash, the chicks WILL be flocking.
Meh. A dude from my high school class was lauded as some math/science genius, went to MIT and is extremely successful. I still wouldn't go near him with a ten-foot-pole. I'm self-sufficient that way, though.
yea why call them nerds? What an asshole.
A girl from my high school in CA was an Intel finalist in 1999. She later went on to MIT (I think she had a full scholarship from what I heard) and she was Miss Massachusetts and competed in the Miss America pageant.
