Bruni goes to Brooklyn this week and one-stars Porchetta. He says the Italian restaurant is "chasing an edginess that other Italian restaurants in its area don't have in their sights." Also that chef Jason Neroni has "got the goods."
And Eater is off by a star this week, having put their money on two for Porchetta.
In $25 and Under, Peter Meehan goes to Kyotofu dessert restaurant, for tofu desserts, and loves it. "Anyone who detours to Kyotofu will be rewarded with desserts executed with the precision of a four-star restaurant," he says.
Cuozzo visits Pera, a new Turkish spot in midtown east. Calls it "the happiest culinary surprise near Grand Central Terminal since Sushi Yasuda opened to shock and awe six years ago." The breads are "sensational," and the flavor constellations "the real thing."
Alan Richman goes to Waverly Inn for Bloomberg: "Everybody who came to dinner with me loved the place. As did I." He loved all the seafood dishes, and the short ribs. The desserts brought less enthusiasm, and the wine list, none. His main complaint is that the place is still--after two months--in previews and not officially open for business.
In the Sun, Paul Adams goes to SoHo's Babouche for Moroccan. He finds it cramped and touristy, but the food stands out.
