Pencil This In

MUSIC: We've been enjoying us some Ford & Fitzroy, and are eager to hear what they've got in store sonically (as there is only one track available online right now). But the ex-Asobi Seksu bassist and his talented bandmates have got us hooked off just that one tune. Give a listen at their MySpace. And check them out tonight with V2's Roman Candle.

Friday // 11pm // Sin-e [150 Attorney St] // $10

589.x231.th.ope.radiohole.jpgTHEATER: Radiohole is back with a monomaniacal vengeance to finally harpoon Fluke, “a surreal, non-stop thrill ride of the imagination”, which premiered in an earlier incarnation at P.S. 122 last spring. The ever-febrile troupe swears this version is an “ALL NEW nautical spectacle”, so those who caught the original shouldn’t hesitate to climb aboard again. Radiohole’s kinetic coups de theatre defy description – the company’s own stab at synopsis is aptly delirious: “A psychedelic merry-go-round of rocking-boats, aquatic view-holes, hundreds of birds and Radiohole's patented Water-Lights. Can Mme. Psychosis and Psyche Zenobia really read the mystic tapestry of fate? Will Ahab's rage sink the Radiohole?” Time Out NY theater man David Cote has an informative profile of the R-Holes here. Did you know that a radio hole is “the side of the moon from which you can’t get your radio waves to earth”? - John Del Signore

Friday // 8:30pm // The Collapsable Hole [146 Metropolitan Ave, Brooklyn] // Tickets cost $15

ART: We always thought alcohol was a nice accoutrement to Nietzsche. Tonight, enjoy both as you gaze upon paintings and drawings based on a passage from "Thus Spoke Zarathustra". Contemplate eternal recurrence as you pound fancy drinks. Whatever, we do that every Friday.

Friday // Friedrich Petzel Gallery [537 West 22nd St]

MUSIC: Two blogger parties battle it out Saturday night. Over in corner Manhattan we have Crackers United and their Friction show. We've attended almost all of these, not only for the free Sparks - but for the solid lineups. This week: O'Death, Mahogany, Daylight's for the Birds and Relay.

Listen: My Bed is my Castle.mp3 - Mahogany

Over in corner Brooklyn we have The Battering Room/Pop Tarts Suck Toasted with Antifreeze. They've got Mistakes, Beat Radio, Life in Bed and The Lisps.

Listen: A Million Miles.mp3 - Beat Radio

Saturday // 8pm // Matchless [557 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn] // $7

EVENT: Leave your pants at home and take a little ride on the subway this Saturday. That's right: it's 2007's No Pants Ride! Interested? Meet in Foley Square at 3 pm. Warning: you may get arrested.

Saturday // 3pm // Foley Square // Free

THEATER: The subversive puppet play The Rapture Project has been packing ‘em in at HERE. With Evangelicals influencing The Decider, dog days of January and Middle East escalation, it’s no wonder the play’s a hit with New York audiences. The Rapture Project fuses stories from the daily news, popular End Times literature, traditional Sicilian puppetry, fundamentalist iconography, Susan Sontag fighting Satan and original music to ponder: “Why do so many Americans, who believe that The Rapture is imminent have the ears of the highest levels of government?” Culturebot says “…it’s a tale that needs repeating, if only to controvert the reigning hysteria.” - John Del Signore

Saturday // 7pm & 10:30pm // HERE [145 6th Avenue] // Tickets cost $20

COMEDY: Have we mentioned the awesome comedy Sunday nights at Union Hall? If not, check one out this Sunday. Tearing The Veil Of Maya: comedy with Eugene Mirman + Dave Hill + Jacqueline Novak + Demetri Martin. The latter of which was supposed to have a post written for us today, but missed his deadline. We forgive him, but only because he's dreamy funny.

Sunday // Union Hall [702 Union St, Brooklyn]

EVENT: Let's try this again...FreeNYC points us towards a clothing swap. Sick of your own clothes? Got "nothing to wear"? Then head over with your schwag and get some nice new/old stuff to put in your closet.

Sunday // 6 to 8pm // Lava Gina [116 Ave C] // Free
