Howard's $83M Bonus

A year after moving his show to the station, Howard Stern received a bonus worth nearly $83 million (22.1 million shares) from Sirius Satellite Radio today ("for surpassing subscriber goals set in a 2004 contract that had already turned heads with its $500 million compensation package").

Not a bad deal at all. Sirius, along with its competitor in the satellite radio market, XM Radio, are growing rapidly. Each are losing money, however, by trying to get "top-shelf entertainment" like Stern, Oprah Winfrey and Martha Stewart. But hopefully Sirius is hooking up the bloggers with radio shows on their station, too.

Here's Stern on Letterman giving away Sirius radios:

Stern's show on Sirius is better than ever, and he's brought in the subscribers. He deserves to be rewarded.

Opey & Andy?? Say, aren't they that shitty Howard Stern Tribute Band that had to run back to FCC-censored, commercial riddled terrestrial radio?Well - their ratings just came out, and they tanked. So much for hiring imitators to replace the real thing.

Meanwhile, Sirius is outselling XM (satellite home of the clones) at a 2 to 1 rate. Looks like "the virus" has been cured.

HAIL HOWARD! Long live THE KING!

Funny how there was so much outrage about Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman Sachs's bonus of $53,400,000, but no one seems to be saying how unfair Howard Stern's $83,000,000 bonus is. Not that I'm justifying anyone getting that much money...

The only reason there's a merge is because the head of Sirius knows he's on a sinking ship, so he tried to boost his stock prices up by saying there was a merger. XM is struggling enough, and don't need to buy a company on the brink of failure.

BTW, when the hell was the last time Stern was relevant? OOOH so shocking, he's dressed up as a woman!

Must be nice to only have to work four days a week for that kind of money. Wait - he doesn't work. That's why he has less listeners on satellite than Opie and Anthony, not to mention the additional FM market share that they have.

Spread the virus! Opie and Anthony XM202

  • so he takes home about $41M... not bad.

how about a nice donation to a cancer org.

They aren't growing rapidly enough though. Didn't the Times or WSJ say that the Sirius and XM will likely have to merge?

i love how for the blogger radio show, they picked the dullest (bv) and the dumbest (psnyc) music bloggers alive
