  • Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a commercial hi-rise fire on Park Avenue South, a baby abducted from hospital in the Bronx, and something about "odor of gas" in Midtown!
  • Interesting: cities with more bikers on the street actually have a lower rate of per capita biking injuries and fatalities-- apparently drivers learn to be more careful.
  • The Archdiocese of New York: "We're looking for the lord. We're finding him. We're embracing him, and we've been doing it for 200 years."
  • Bargain of the day: you can get a German Shepard for $128.50!
  • Where have all the good bagel makers gone, long time passing? Answer: Baltimore.
  • The Graffiti Archeology Project has put up its 11 Spring Project. The flash animation shows the progression of the west and south walls of the building from 2002 through the present.
  • Now that he's helped put the Democrats into the majority in the Senate, Chuck Schumer is checking out how to make federal homeland security spending sensible given that New York is a huge target and a "police chief in Salina, Kansas" should not be determining our needs
  • The MTA hasn't started wiring stations for cell phone reception, but the Daily News discovers that at many stations built close to street level, you can already make calls. The best stations for platform calls seem to be on the 2/3 and the 4/5.
